I have been using Windows for a long time so far. Recently I switched to Windows 7 and was surprised about its performance. The most interesting thing in Windows 7 is that it can automatically recognize the new hardware and install it, so I didn’t need CD driver for installing drivers like I did before. I am a Linux fan, but I still use Windows because I am using some particular softwares that run only in Windows.

But actually it made me crazy with the default sound driver, I couldn’t enjoy great sound like before in Windows XP. Searching in the Internet and found out there are a lot of people out there got the same problem like have no sound, there is crazy noise, … and there are also a lot of solutions. But the easiest way is use the default drivers provided by the manufacturer.

Step 1

Uninstall the old driver from Drive manager by typing those words in the search box, find sound and uninstall it.

Step 2

Use the driver disc and find audio folder under audio and install it. After that, restart the system again. The audio driver in here is Realtek High Definition Audio Codec R2.04 (09/12/2008).

You can download that driver from here or simply search that version driver from Google.

Note: not the latest version because I have tried it and the same problem had occurred, so be careful.

This post, I would like to introduce about the HapticMaster just like a summary about the paper I have read: The HapticMaster, a new high-performance haptic interface

What is the HapticMASTER ?

As you can see from the above picture, the HapticMASTER is a 3 DOF device designed by FCS company and there are 2 dedicated industrial computers for a inner controller and a outer controller. Both of them use VxWorks real-time operating system.

The end effector plate workspace of the HapticMaster spans a 3-dimensional space with a volume of approximately 80 liters. The end plate of the robot arm allows the mounting of difference end effectors.

Controller of HapticMASTER

The HapticMASTER is a force controlled haptic interface:

• Input: force from the human
• Output: the proper displacement

It means when a human pushes the hand, by using the force sensor the device can measure an exact force, therefore give the proper displacement. So simply called: force in and displacement out. It is a Admittance control.

There are 2 controller which are inner servo loop and outer control loop. I just take an explanation from the paper:

The HapticMaster measures the force exerted by the user, preferably measured close to the human hand with a sensitive force sensor. An internal model then calculates the Position, Velocity, and Acceleration (PVA), which a (virtual) object touched in space would get as a result of this force. The PVA-vector is commanded to the robot, which then makes the movement by means of a conventional control law. The general control algorithm is illustrated in Fig. 2. The internal model will typically contain a certain mass, to avoid commanding infinite accelerations. The inner servo loop will cancel the real mass and friction of the mechanical device.

An other interesting thing is two loops of the controllers run at a fixed update rate of 2500 Hz, which is approximately ten times higher than the maximal human discrepance value [Burdea, 1996].

Today, I went to the GetDeb website just because I wanted to download the latest Filezilla FTP application for my Ubuntu 9.10, and I was really surprised that now they have a very great website and also their own Repository. Before it was so difficult to access this website, even couldn’t see anything, I thought just because it is so famous among websites for very huge Ubuntu fans, and now they change to the new server and also technical supports. Thank GetDeb people so much for their efforts to bring a lot of benefits to Ubuntu fans. In here, you can easily find some famous applications such that Pidgin, Filezilla, …

As you know that, there are 2 ways to install a package: compile from the source or install from Ubuntu repositories. So GetDeb people just compile every new sources into ready install .deb files, so everyone can just download them and install. Therefore, it take just little time for everyone.

There are 2 ways you can download packages from GetDeb website:

1. Go directly to GetDeb and download the latest .deb files and install manually but you will not know whenever there is a update package without always checking this website.
2. Install GetDeb repository. This post almost covers the second method.

Install repository

Use the following instructions:

1. Install the getdeb package.
2. Or configure the repository manually:Go to System-Administration-Software Sources, Third-Party Software tab, Add:

   deb http://archive.getdeb.net/ubuntu karmic-getdeb apps

3. Add the repository GPG key, open a terminal window and type:

   wget -q -O- http://archive.getdeb.net/getdeb-archive.key | sudo apt-key add -

4. Click the “Install this now” button below the screenshot of the desired application.

As in the post How to install Ubuntu 9.04 on notebook MSI VX600, I had to disable ACPI, … to make Ubuntu 9.04 work in my notebook, but the CPU always went height when I open the Firefox browse, especially some flash sites. So at that time, I couldn’t enjoy Ubuntu system in my notebook.

But now, after near one month already, I move to use Ubuntu as the primary OS in my notebook. Ubuntu 9.10 makes a lot of changes, so it runs so stable, smoothly.

Another interesting thing in Ubuntu 9.10 is Ubuntu One, which can automatically sync the personal data in secure with many computers which have same Ubuntu One account. But for me, I still choose Dropbox, instead of Ubuntu One, because it can sync faster and more stable than Ubuntu One.

I am using Code Composer 3.3 with TDS510USB Jtag Emulator on TMS320F28335, but after installing Jtag Driver, … and trying to compile one sample project, I always get warning: invalid compiler –float_support=fpu32 (ignored) and finally error at linking step: can’t find input file ‘rts2800_fpu32.lib’

After searching Internet, I found out that it was because of Code Generation Tools should be the latest version. So if you face that problem you can follow these steps to upgrade your Code Generation Tools.

Step 1: Download new CGT

Download Code Generation Tools from TI Website: https://www-a.ti.com/downloads/sds_support/CodeGenerationTools.htm or go to menu: Help > Update Advisor -> Check for update and find Code Generation Tools

Just download the latest version. At this moment,the latest version is 5.2.1 for both Windows and Linux. After that, install that file as normal.

Step 2: Configure for new CGT

Go to menu Help -> About and click Component Manager:

At the tab Build Tools, choose the latest version instead the default version:

Save and restart CCS and you can compile successfully your C2000 CPU.

Today, I am searching for a great tool which combines between QT and Python. Finally, I found out one great language is PyQt and language as well PyQt. This book is free under Open Publication License.
